The British Academy welcomed the Oral Health Foundation earlier this week [08 May 2018] by hosting the launch of this year’s National Smile Month – and, being held in their famous Music Room, the charity campaign is expected to hit all the right notes.

The great and good from the world of dentistry came to support the Oral Health Foundation at Carlton House Terrace in London, to attend the launch of the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral health.

National Smile Month, which starts on Monday [14 May 2018], will communicate the importance of a healthy mouth and support people from all around the United Kingdom to adopt an effective oral health routine.

CEO of the Oral Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter OBE, officially launched this year’s campaign on what turned about to be a glorious and sunny day in the heart of London.

The charity’s President, Professor Liz Kay MBE, spoke about the Oral Health Foundation’s leading role in driving health policy, not only in the UK but also around Europe.

Jane Kidson of Oral-B also addressed the attendees, announcing that the company would be using National Smile Month as an opportunity to launch a series of activities that will directly tackle the current crisis in children’s oral health.

National Smile Month is being supported by some of the nation’s best-known brands and retailers. Oral-B are Platinum sponsors of the campaign, with further support from Wrigley, Philips, Regenerate Enamel Science, POLO® Sugar Free and Curaprox.

The campaign will deliver three key messages for better oral health:

  • Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Cut down on how much and how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
  • Visit the dentist regularly – as often as they recommend.

If you have not done so yet there is still time to support the campaign and take part in National Smile Month. Simply visit www.smilemonth.org to find out more about what the campaign is all about and how you can get involved.

In the meantime, here are a few photos from the event…
