A much-respected dental charity is hoping to recruit volunteers to play a key role in driving it forward into the future.

The British Dental Health Foundation is looking to recruit up to four new people to join its Board of Trustees, which oversees the development and continuing strategy of the charity and its work.

The long-standing charity is devoted to improving people's lives by reducing the harm caused by oral diseases, many of which are entirely preventable. The charity's annual campaigns such as National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Action Month raise important health issues and reach millions of people while its voice on tobacco, alcohol and sugar as well as on the rise of HPV, has had helped form major nationwide health policies.

The charity is looking for a number of trustees with specific skills and experience in financial reporting, marketing, fund raising, social media and education.

Dr Newton says: "We're looking to recruit new trustees who can become the next generation of governance for an organisation that for over forty years has educated the public, parliament and the media about oral health issues including HPV, tobacco, alcohol, mouth cancer and tooth whitening, as well as the more everyday topics of tooth decay, gum disease and wisdom teeth.

"We particularly encourage interest from those who are looking to become a trustee for the first time, but who might have been put off applying for such a role because of their lack of governance experience: we all have to start somewhere, and we'll provide all the training you need in return for the relatively small time commitment of between six and ten days a year.

"Having been a trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation on and off for some thirty years, I can tell you that it can be both challenging and hugely rewarding. If you feel you might have something to offer, please do get in touch with us to find out more."

For more than 40 years the charity has had a reputation for educating, motivating and communicating the importance of good oral health to millions of people, not only throughout the United Kingdom but around the world.

If you are interested in becoming a trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation, a candidate briefing pack containing more information can be found on the charity's website www.dentalhealth.org/about-us/board-of-trustees, where an application form can also be located.
