News & blogs News Oral health charity feeling extra smiley as National Smile Month gets set to begin 10 May 2017 A new chapter of the annual campaign, National Smile Month, was celebrated yesterday as guests from all around the nation came together for a charity launch event held by the Oral Health Foundation. Now in its fifth decade, the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral health, National Smile Month, has helped to spread important oral health messages to millions of people from every possible background, helping to influence healthy smiles across the country. To mark the start of what they are sure will be another fantastic campaign, the campaigns organisers, the Oral Health Foundation, held a celebratory launch event yesterday [9 May 2017] which brought people together to see what can be achieved this year to help bring better oral health to all. Dr Nigel Carter OBE, CEO of the Oral Health Foundation, officially launched this year’s National Smile Month campaign in the stunning surroundings of the Library Room at Sixty One Whitehall, a venue which sits on the site of what used to be Henry VIII’s private bed chamber many years ago. The speeches made by Dr Carter and Jane Kidson, Professional Scientific Academic Relations Manager at Oral B, left guests in no doubt of the importance of National Smile Month and looked ahead to what will hopefully be another successful fun-filled month for people across the country. The event also provided an opportunity to thank Sharon Broom, Director of Operations at the Oral Health Foundation, for her tireless work-ethic and over 17 years of dedication to her position at the charity. She will be leaving her position at the end of the month and we wish her nothing but the best in her new role as Chief Executive at the British Society of Dental Hygiene Therapy. This year the campaign is being supported by some of the nation’s best-known brands and retailers. Oral-B are the platinum sponsors of the campaign, with further support from Wrigley’s Extra, POLO® Sugar Free, Philips and Regenerate. The campaign will help deliver the charity’s three key messages as a pathway to good oral health: Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste. Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks. Visit the dentist regularly – as often as they recommend.
