Janet Goodwin began work in the dental profession in 1971 and worked in many different environments from general practice, community, dental hospital and further education.

Quite early on, Janet became interested in the education aspect of her role and qualified to teach, which she still enjoys today. This invariably led Janet into management in which she still has a peripatetic input with both dental practices and courses.

At present, Janet is the immediate past-president of the Oral Health Foundation, involved in strategic planning, setting the organisational objectives, and helping to steer the charitable goals of the two major campaigns (National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Action Month).

Janet carries out management and educational projects on an independent basis with various organisations including the Faculty of General Dental Practice, where she is Chair of the DCP committee, City & Guilds as Chief Examiner, and Dental Team Qualification in the development and delivery of DCP programmes.

Janet has recently finished her term of office with the General Dental Council as Council member, and Chair of the Standards Review Group. Janet was also a Governing Body member of Nugent Care Charity in Liverpool, both offices involved governance, strategy and regulatory processes.

In the past, Janet's career has included working with The National Examining Board for Dental Nurses as a Chairman and an Examiner, Strategic Health Authority as a development manager, and Leeds Dental Institute as Nurse Manager.

In her leisure time, Janet plays badminton and pursues her family tree.
