On September 14th 2019, Zak and I are taking on part of Snowdonia, and raising money for Moveit4smiles in the process! The charity raises awareness of two extremely important and pressing issues in the world of oral health – rising mouth cancer rates and the human papillomavirus, more commonly known as HPV.

We are climbing to the summit of Cnicht – the Welsh Matterhorn! This popular Welsh mountain is a 10km walk to its highest peak and contains an overall ascent of 577m!

New cases of Mouth Cancer have now risen to over 8,300 every year in the UK alone. It’s one of the few types of cancer that is expected to continue to rise over the coming years. Over the last two decades, the number of new cases has risen by 135%.

Despite this concerning rise in the number of new mouth cancer cases across the country, there is still a really low level of awareness when it comes to the disease. HPV is expected to become the leading cause of mouth cancer in coming years. The good news is a vaccination against the virus will now be offered to boys and girls at school.

This is something we believe could save countless lives in the future and make HPV-related diseases a thing of the past. But this relies on parents across the UK making sure they understand why it’s vital their son or daughter receives the vaccine The money we raise through this initiative will go directly towards making sure more people can access information about the virus and mouth cancer.

Your support can make a huge difference. Together we can save lives.
