Tomorrow is a very special day, we want the nation to come together for the Great British Brushathon and get behind good oral health. At 9am we want as many of you as possible to take part in a synchronised 2 minute brush of your teeth – with a fluoride toothpaste of course. Here’s how and why you should get involved.

Brushing for 2 minutes for twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste is vital if you want a healthy mouth. If you already brush twice a day for two minutes then you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in the vast majority, however that is not the case. Latest statistics suggest that one in five (21%) Brits do not brush their teeth twice a day. In Scotland, the number is even higher with just under one in three (31%) stating they did not brush twice a day.

Through the Brushathon we hope to get people thinking about their brushing habits and also spread some smiles while we do it!

So here’s how you get involved:

  • Film yourself brushing your teeth for two minutes. Why not include a timer in the shot so that you and those watching can see you brushing for the full two minutes.
  • Post the video on your social media platforms (the more the merrier!) on Wednesday 3 June at 9am.
  • Include the message ‘This is how I take care of my teeth by brushing twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste. I’m supporting National #SmileMonth because looking after my smile is really important. #GreatBritishBrushathon’
  • Tag three friends into your post and challenge them to upload their toothbrushing video on social media for National Smile Month.

Alternatively, if you thrive in the spotlight, you can try brushing your teeth while live streaming on social media.  Before going live on 3 June, don’t forget to include the above message and hashtag.

Let us know if you are planning to take part by filling out our form on our 'Great British Brushathon' page so we can look out for and share your post!
