Blue was well and truly the colour on Wednesday 16 November as we celebrated Blue Wednesday, a day dedicated to raising awareness of mouth cancer as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month.Blue Wednesday

Painted faces, body suits, football shirts and countless blue lips were seen far and wide as the great British public well and truly got behind the cause. Special mention must go to the dental practices and healthcare businesses across the country who helped vital mouth cancer messages reach millions of people, potentially saving many lives through awareness.

Mouth cancer cases are increasing year on year and the disease now claims more than 2,000 lives annually. With more than 7,500 people being diagnosed each year, raising awareness of mouth cancer is increasingly important. Events such as Blue Wednesday are imperative if we are to catch more cases early by making people more alert to the major signs, symptoms and causes of this terrible disease.

Thank you to everybody who took part. Here are just some of the amazing images of those who got involved in Blue Wednesday…….

Mouth Cancer Action Month runs throughout November and is organised by the Oral Health Foundation and sponsored by Denplan. The charity campaign is aiming to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of mouth cancer, in order to get more cases caught early enough to make a difference to the chances of survival.

Mouth cancer can affect anyone so we all need to be able to recognise and act on the warning signs in order to improve early diagnosis and help save lives which otherwise could be lost to the disease.
