Over the years Mercy Ships have generously given their amazing support to National Smile Month, the UK’s largest and longest running oral health campaign, organised by the Oral Health Foundation.

Between them the two charities have helped to address some of the major inequalities in health and tackle the burden of dental disease by bringing smiles to some of the most in need people around the world.

As National Smile Month’s ‘Charity Partner’, Mercy Ships are on a mission to increase access to healthcare throughout the world and during the oral health campaign they are taking dental messages, education and treatment to those all across Africa.

The dental team help fill the gaps in a county’s health care system, often serving the dire and immediate needs of their population. Having recently completed a field service in Madagascar the hospital ship, Africa Mercy, is now dry docked in Durban preparing to commence the next service in Benin from August 2016.
