This is a good one, and really encourages good oral health practice too.

Staggeringly, one in six of us only change our toothbrush, or toothbrush head, once a year while one in five can’t even remember the last time it was changed.

The toothbrush exchange is an amnesty that dental practices can create throughout National Smile Month. The goal is to encourage patients to hand in their old brushes and replace them with a new one.

The new toothbrush could either be a free manual brush, or free heads for electric ones. Alternatively, you could run a special offer – how about 25% or 50% off a new toothbrush as part of the exchange?

The toothbrush exchange could be an offer for new patients, or existing patients who make an appointment during National Smile Month. It’s completely up to you. As with all our events, they’re completely flexible to what works best for you.

The event is a great way to educate patients about good oral hygiene routines and informing them about when brushes should actually be changed. It will also get people talking about your practice!

Why organise a toothbrush exchange...

  • A toothbrush exchange is not only for dental practices and their patients – it’s also great for schools and children’s clubs and centres too.
  • It's good practice to change your toothbrush every three months which means that families get through a lot of toothbrushes throughout the year.
  • A toothbrush exchange is a great way for people of all ages to learn about dental care.

Toothbrush exchange tip

  • If you’re looking to run a toothbrush exchange, either in the dental practice or in a school, you’re going to need new toothbrushes. Take a look at our wide range here, and remember, as this is a charity campaign all proceeds go to a great cause.

If you would like people to know about your toothbrush exchange, then you can upload the details on our website.

Write about what your event is, where and when it is taking place and it will be listed on our events page, for all our visitors to find. From there, they will be able to add it into their calendars and if you are raising money as part of the event, supporters will even be able to donate to your event online.
