The Oral Health Foundation’s special Smile Squad set their sights for Lutterworth, Leicestershire last weekend and successfully conquered a physically-challenging 10K Wolf Run in aid of the homeless.

On Saturday 1 June, the team from the oral health charity, tackled muddy trails, freezing cold lakes and intimidating climbing walls to raise funds to provide dental packs for homeless people.

So far, the team’s efforts have raised over £650. The charity is working alongside Crisis to ensure all proceeds go towards giving homeless people the basic tools they need to make a positive difference to their oral health.

The fearless team of wolf runners came from the Oral Health Foundation’s public relations, sales and human resources.

George Bushell, Senior Press Officer and member of the enthusiastic Smile Squad spoke of the physical challenge the team took on.

George says: “None of us have ever done anything like this, but I really must say that it was so much fun.

“For those who are looking for a great team bonding activity and a way to raise some money for a great cause, I would absolutely recommend having a go at a Wolf Run.

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shown their support. The money raised is going towards a wonderful cause and will help us tackle a serious issue that effects many people who have fallen on unfortunate times.”

It is estimated that there are around 250,000 people in the UK who are currently homeless. Without the access to effective dental care or the tools to look after their oral health, they face the prospect of issues like tooth decay and gum disease.

David Arnold, Director of Communications and member of the Smile Squad, adds: “We believe that everybody deserves to have access to dental care and the tools to look after their oral health.

“The wonderful support we have received will make a big difference to the lives of so many people who are sadly unable to access simple tools like toothpaste and a toothbrush. Things that many of us take for granted every day.

“As inequalities in oral health continue to grow, it’s important that we continue to take action to ensure good oral health is something that is accessible to absolutely everybody.”

The Oral Health Foundation and Crisis are in the process of creating and distributing dental packs across the UK.
