With November’s Mouth Cancer Action Month right around the corner, we take a look at the role of dental professionals and their position in diagnosing mouth cancer. It’s easy to think that our dentist is simply there to check the state of our teeth and gums, but this couldn’t be further from the case. With mouth cancer one of very few cancers on the increase, maintaining regular check-ups has never been so important.

Still on the topic of mouth cancer, and its leading cause… smoking. In this issue we have a feature charting seven things that happens to your mouth when you smoke while emphasising the importance of kicking the habit.

We also have an article on our Dental Helpline which celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, the need for food manufacturers to cut the levels of sugar in their products, as well as a few pieces about Halloween and its potential impact on our children’s teeth.

We hope you enjoy this latest issue and it would be wonderful to have your support for next month’s Mouth Cancer Action Month. You can do this by visiting www.mouthcancer.org/support. Please also take some time to look around the website for ways to get involved.
